2024 Internship Spotlight

Nicholas Layke Headshot

OnLocation hosted Nicholas Layke as an Energy Analysis Intern in Summer 2024. During his time at OnLocation, Nicholas researched critical materials with a focus on lithium to better understand how critical materials will impact our energy future as the world continues to transition to cleaner energy.

Nicholas worked alongside a team of talented OnLocation staff members to write “Exploration of Lithium’s Future Role in the U.S. Energy Transition.” The full report will be released later this year. Nicholas explored the role of lithium with economic, social, environmental, and geographic considerations. This was his first experience writing a paper of this scope as well as his first in-depth exposure to critical materials. Nicholas is proud of the work he produced and all he has learned throughout the internship. Nicholas will be able to take away a better understanding of current and future energy transition trends as they related to the clean energy transition.

This fall, Nicholas will return to Davidson College for his senior year to finish his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies. He is pursuing the Natural Science track with a minor in Hispanic Studies. As Nicholas prepares to complete his undergraduate studies and enter the workforce, he is grateful for the professional experience and industry knowledge gained from his internship.
